The power gap

Leverage can be real and not yours to reach. The ladder ranks rungs by how much they move and says nothing about which ones your position lets you touch, which is the most common route by which this book becomes self-blame for a reader doing everything right. Three options and only three: get access to a higher rung, leave where leaving is genuinely available, or stop paying for the unreachable rung and spend what you have where it reaches — the last being arithmetic rather than attitude, since effort aimed at an unreachable rung is withdrawn from a reachable one.
