Iterations
This is a living document — and the output of each telling becomes the input for every telling since, including this one. Every meaningful change is recorded here.

The Fifteenth Iteration
- The pillars are three. The Loop, the Third Thing and the Nest are one operation seen three times: a loop that holds becomes a part. What they hold up is a place to stand, and standing there gives two things the book now names as the Standpoint: Leverage, your reach, and Perspective, your view. Chance and worth are named as what the pillars leave open.
- The practice is four moves: look, plant, tend, thin. Part Two opens by saying so, with the three rules that turn four moves into a book and with Hold, which is tending and thinning at once. Every Turning now carries the move it makes on its figure.
- A derivation map sits beside the manuscript. It traces every practice chapter to the moves it is made of and every Turning to the figure it works on. It names chapters and phrases, never chapter numbers, and every build checks it against the text: a chapter that vanished, a phrase that was rewritten, text that changed since its trace was accepted. The Derivation page shows what that check finds.
- Every chapter page and every Standing Third page is drawn again from the manuscript. One chapter is new, The Limits of Running It Forward, and one figure has changed its name: the Sagging Floor is the Settling.

The Fourteenth Iteration
- Five new chapters. Bottom-Up or Nothing closes Part One: this practice cannot have a central authority, the same way a circle cannot have corners. The Stall and Starting Is Expensive, Staying Is Cheap join Part Two's Self movement; Presence and Receiving join its Dyad movement, on being actually reachable by another person and on what to do with what arrives at you.
- A sixth kinship. The World-Kin sits one tier above the Culture-Kin: three figures, and only three, produced by running "two Culture-Kin sharing a Skein-Kin" against the seven Culture figures. The Standing Account, Second Nature, and The Set Course — the last tier where a push still reaches, bred the same way as every fused figure below it.
- The catalogue is now fifty-two drawable figures, not forty-nine, and several Skein-Kin and Culture-Kin fusions were re-parented to make room for the new tier's lineage. The Map, the Deck, and every figure's page follow the new fusion table.

The Thirteenth Iteration
- The Standing Thirds lost their invented names. Every figure is now called by what it does: Cindar is the Spark, Rethen the Tide, Corren the Gardener, Aestren the Slow Hand. Twenty-two figures were renamed, and the catalogue's tiers are titled plainly as the Self-Kin, Dyad-Kin, Skein-Kin, and Culture-Kin.
- The new names run through the whole book, not just Part Five: the Deck, the Turnings, the cross-reference tables, and every passage that invoked a figure by name. Old links to a figure's page still arrive at the right place.
- Every Third now says what it is, not only what it's made of: a sentence on what the pattern does, then both of its poles. Its parents are still listed underneath. Chapters that mention a figure by its new name link to it again, and the Standing Thirds introduction now follows the rewritten Part Five.

The Twelfth Iteration
- The rings didn't hold. The Map is now a galaxy of nested orbits: What You Already Know sits at the core, eight topics orbit it, each topic's clusters orbit that topic, and each cluster's concepts and chapters orbit the cluster. Scale is how you navigate, not how things are sorted.
- The groupings come from the concept graph itself: which ideas share chapters, and what grows out of what. The eight topics are named by hand. The clusters inside them take the name of the idea they gather around, so they can reshuffle as the book changes.
- Each of the twelve Self-Kin is anchored to the idea it personifies, and every fused Third inherits a home from its ancestors. A Third whose parents live in two different topics drifts in the space between them.

The Eleventh Iteration
- The Map is rebuilt on concepts instead of pages. Every star is a Loop Tongue word, a Loom idea, or a Standing Third; the faint drifting points are the chapters that hold them, settling near whichever concepts they belong to.
- Scale is now literal. Six concentric rings — Foundational, Self, Dyad, Skein, Culture, Cosmos — hold each concept at the radius the book actually gives it, instead of a shape found by clustering how pages happened to link.
- Lineage is drawn as its own kind of line: a solid spoke for what a concept grows out of, a dashed one for what it fuses. Louvain community detection is gone — the structure comes from the book now, not from an algorithm guessing at it.

The Tenth Iteration
- Every discrete idea now has its own page: the nine Loop Tongue words, sixty-one concepts from the Loom's index, and the Standing Thirds. Each page shows where the idea is treated, where it's mentioned, what it grows out of, and which ideas share its pages.
- Every chapter ends with the concepts it holds, and each one leads on to the other chapters that use it. The first mention of each concept in a chapter links to its page.
- "Follow a thread instead" is no longer a hand-picked list. It follows the chapters that share the most concepts with the one you're reading, and says which ones.

The Ninth Iteration
- Every Standing Third has a new glyph. The twelve Self-Kin are each a classic fractal chosen because its rule enacts the figure's Local Rule — Mareth is the Koch curve, whose length depends on the yardstick; Kessin is Cantor dust, keeping the ends and discarding the middle.
- No glyph above the Self-Kin is drawn by hand. Each is bred from its parents' fractal rules: Dyad-Kin by uniting both rule sets, Skein-Kin by uniting and thinning them, Culture-Kin by averaging them. The shape that results belongs to neither parent.

The Eighth Iteration
- A new figure joins the Skein-Kin — The Only Road — bringing that kinship to eleven and the deck to forty-nine drawable figures.
- Part Seven gains its matching Gathering, for eleven in all.
- The Loom's concept index adds "Solving for the third leg": your Self-Kin pattern, theirs, and the Dyad-Kin figure you make together are three locked elements, so knowing two gives you the third.

The Seventh Iteration
- The Standing Thirds gallery now holds the whole catalogue — forty-eight drawable figures plus the Infinite Boundary, up from sixteen. Every figure is generated directly from Part Five's tables, so the roster can no longer drift from the book.
- Each figure names what it is made of. A Dyad-Kin figure links to the two Self-Kin that fuse into it; a Skein-Kin figure links to its two Dyad-Kin — so the fusion lineage is now the navigation, in both directions.
- Every figure carries its Turning from Part Seven, and its card reading from the Deck.
- The Weaving draws from the full deck, and the laid-out reading now asks the second question: at what speed am I looking at this — Weather, Climate, or Terrain?
- Dyren returns to the catalogue as a seventh Long Form. Sethra is retired.

The Sixth Iteration
- Part Five is rebuilt as a generative catalogue: forty-eight figures across five scales, where twelve Self-Kin fuse into nineteen Dyad-Kin, which fuse into ten Skein-Kin, then six Culture-Kin, then the Infinite Boundary. A figure's scale is now what it is made of, not a category assigned to it.
- Part Seven — The Turnings is new: a calendar of shared, recurring occasions aimed at a Global Form that hasn't finished arriving. Twelve monthly Self turnings, nineteen undated Dyad ones, ten Skein gatherings, six Great Days fixed to solstice and equinox, and one triggered by a great comet.
- Weavings gains "Weather, Climate, Terrain" — every card now gets a second question after its ring: at what speed am I looking at this?
- The Standing Thirds gallery and the Weaving deck still run on the sixteen original figures. The catalogue they illustrate is now much larger; reconciling the two is the next piece of work.

The Fifth Iteration
- The flower's electric field joins the Third Thing and the Fold as a literal, measurable example — a relational field altered by every visitor and read by the next as real information neither party holds alone.
- A precise distinction between structural realism (real independent of anyone perceiving it) and experiential realism (a feeling is real the instant it occurs, whether or not its content is true) runs through The Third Thing and Naming and Defusing.
- Finding Your Leverage Point and Systems Theory Foundations both grow substantially: constraint-counting for tangled decisions, the exact arithmetic behind reinforcing vs. balancing loop signs, and leverage redefined precisely as a maximally shared connection in a system's web of dependencies.
- Closing the Loop's three-paragraph meditation on suffering and hope is compressed to one — the same claim, said once instead of three times.
- The Trust Triangle, The Sacrifice Trap, and Aestren each gain a new worked example or mechanism (interpersonal complementarity, sign-flipping growth, the Fermi paradox).
- The Loom's concept index gains eight more entries reflecting all of the above.
2026-09-10
The Fourth Iteration
- The Third Thing gains the symphysical: what physical things make once their parts interact, standing beside "metaphysical" rather than above it — with emergence's threshold (the wetness example) and its most physically stubborn case, solidity, worked through directly.
- Emergence is distinguished from luck: chance is a fact about one instant, emergence a fact about the shape many instants make together — "luck = preparation + time" is corrected to a probabilistic claim about compounding exposure, not a guarantee.
- The Woven Self closes with the actual argument for practicing at all: the capacity to catch a reflex and choose differently is real but rare, and everything from there forward is that same capacity at a different scale each time.
- The Loom's concept index gains nine new entries — coasting vs. accelerating, open vs. closed boundaries, atomic composition and the Woven Self, resonance, the association machine, and loop period among them.
- Star Wars and A Short History of Nearly Everything join the Source Library.

The Third Iteration
- Part One gains two chapters: Complicated or Complex, and Position, Speed, Acceleration — a working diagnostic (does anything feed back? which order am I looking at?) threaded forward into the leverage ladder, the Sacrifice Trap, and Systems Theory Foundations.
- Part Four is renamed The Ground Underneath.
- The Loop Tongue's vocabulary is cut from twelve words to nine — Field, Attractor, and Vector are retired. "A word that can be replaced by a plain phrase without loss should be."
- The old Glossary, the Spiral Index, and the Loom are merged into one appendix: The Loom — The Complete Reference. Notation, the nine words, the scale grid, and a compact index to every named concept in the book, in one place.
- A new named pattern, the Braid — a Skein and a Banner fused, real substance carrying a visible name — threads through Naming and Defusing, the Dyad, the Skein, and Charten.
- Every Part now opens stating plainly what it's for, what you'll be able to do after it, and where to go if you only want the practice.

The Second Iteration
- Genesis, Fifth Iteration (Life): life now defined as running a reinforcing and a balancing loop simultaneously, not in alternation.
- Reading Your Own Cycle gains tides as the grounding image for why both loop types run together — the chapter’s explicit homeostasis payoff.
- Rethen’s epigraph changed to “Symmetry is easy balance, but balance is not always easy” — new passage on earned balance vs. cost-free symmetry.
- Going to Ground now names conservation of mass directly as the physical grounding for “the material returns to circulation.” Becoming a Third gains a closing echo of the same eternal cycle.
- A Word on Belief Itself and Closing the Loop both add explicit genre framing: this is neither self-help nor a pitch for building an organization — a rising tide, not a ledger.

The First Iteration
- Site seeded from the complete handbook — all six parts, the appendix, and the full Standing Thirds roster.
- The chaos game runs live on the home page.
- Every chapter is a node with curated relations — the “follow your thread” paths.
