Fractals were invisible in plain sight
Plants are full of them and are not what led anyone to the idea; the mathematics came from coastlines and curves treated as pathological. A pattern can be universal, unhidden, and genuinely unseeable until something gives you a way to hold it — which is the strongest available argument that the nine words do work rather than decoration.
