Concept

Fatalism as unavailable

Not refuted, which would be weaker. "It was always going to happen" is a reading of the whole from outside the whole, and the Infinite Boundary already establishes there is no such position — so the claim can never be checked and never touches anything you might do differently. That shape is a paradigm, and the eighth rung says what to do with one.

Treated in

  • Part Five — The Standing ThirdsThe Infinite Boundary — Cosmos ScaleThe one figure with no healthy pole and no failing pole. A pole has to be read from somewhere, and there is nowhere outside this one to stand.
  • Part Four — The Ground UnderneathThe Limits of Running It ForwardFinding the rule is not predicting the form. Two things make a Global Form unpredictable, a named rule is only a hypothesis, and fatalism turns out to be unavailable rather than false.
